In the 1980's, the licensed beverage industry was plunged into a crisis by exorbitant liquor liability insurance premiums. Out of that crisis emerged the MLBA Limited Liability Pool in 1987. At a time when liquor liability premiums were unchecked and newly required by the state, the Pool filled a large void in the liquor liability industry and aided liquor licensees throughout the state by providing competitive liquor liability premiums.
In August 2001, the Pool converted from a limited liability company to a mutual insurance company. Now known as the MLBA Mutual Insurance Company, the conversion has enabled the company to expand its benefits to include both liquor liability and workers' compensation policies. The MLBA Mutual is owned and operated by its policyholders and, unlike traditional insurance companies, reinvests its profits in the company. Additionally, the MLBA Mutual has paid 15% policy dividends to qualifying liquor liability policyholders for the past few years!
Today the MLBA Mutual has independent agents that represent us throughout the state. As well as providing our MLBA policies, these agents represent other companies that they can use to provide complete commercial packages including general liability and fire. Before you renew your current insurance policies, please contact us. We'll put you in touch with the independent agent in your area who can analyze your business needs and help you find the best coverage available.
