MLBA to Host Annual Lobby Day

Industry,

LANSING, MI – The Michigan Licensed Beverage Association (MLBA), the state’s largest association of on-premises liquor licensees, is hosting its annual Lobby Day on May 13. Bar and restaurant owners from across the state are gathering to meet with their local legislators to discuss the current issues impacting the hospitality industry.

“Bringing together a strong, united group of hospitality business owners to meet directly with their senators and representatives sends a powerful message,” said MLBA Executive Director Scott Ellis. “Our industry has faced numerous challenges in recent years, and we're standing together to protect and shape our future.”

The MLBA is made up of a diverse mixture of liquor licensees with their own unique challenges, but they also face industry-wide issues that need to be addressed with a grassroots touch.

“The way our industry continues to unite and collaborate on such a wide range of issues is truly impressive,” Ellis said. “This year, we’re prioritizing things like modernizing redemption games, setting greater standards for server training, limiting the number of years liquor violations can be used against a licensee, allowing dogs on outdoor patios and allowing charity donations from alcohol sales.”

The MLBA is looking forward to introducing its priorities to legislators on both sides of the aisle who may not yet fully understand the heavily regulated and complex hospitality industry.

“Our industry spans a wide spectrum—from neighborhood pubs and casual dining spots to vibrant nightlife venues,” said Ellis. “Each type of establishment contributes to Michigan’s hospitality scene and deserves a seat at the table. That’s why we unite each year for our lobby day—to make sure our collective voice is heard in Lansing.”
